Boosting smsTunes.com - Music Service August 29
smsTunes.com (USA, Florida, Miami) is a unique online music service that lets you search lyrics, videos, karaokes and song samples for songs added to a user’s individual smsTunes song list. The music site allows users to add songs playing on the radio by just sending a text message. The best part is that users don’t need to know the name of the song or artist. All they have to do is send a text message with the FM radio station (e.g. 973) and the smsTunes song list account is automatically updated. This feature is actually supported by more than 2000 radio stations. So, that’s a breath of fresh air and for a site only in beta version, these are wonderful features.
The music portal has definitely made an honest effort to set itself apart on a number of fronts. For one, users can listen to karaokes for songs from the comfort of the user’s browser and when a Karaoke for a particular song isn’t available, the user can create a new Karaoke through the online SMSTunes Karaoke Creator. Now, to top it off, when a user records themselves singing a song or dancing; the video will then be available simultaneously at smstunes.com as well as uploaded to YouTube.com.
I had a chance to talk to Danilo Romero and Raul Martinez, creators of smsTunes.com and this is what they had to say:
Why did you start this website?
“We created the original service for ourselves, but soon our friends started asking about it and we decided to launch a website that everybody could use. But the main reason was that I couldn’t find the benefits we provide on any other site, and it was fun, so we decided to move forward.”
How are you planning to market it?
Well, initially, a heavily internet campaign, you know, web 2.0 site reviews etc, but this has proven to be not as easily as I thought, but we keep trying.
Raul and Danilo haven’t yet set out a business plan, but nevertheless, are heading in the right direction. Well, considering the honest effort in integrating different communications platforms such as traditional radio stations and the hugely popular video portal, YouTube; they have definitely captivated my interest. I am sure that people will take notice of the site and its innovative efforts. Personally, I found the site easy to navigate and understand and I think it will go well with those music enthusiasts or perhaps even the modest surfer. From here to there, I wish Raul and Danilo well with their new site and I hope they explore more innovative ideas that really pool in resources that can transcend barriers and create a truly inspiring experience for users everywhere.
